It's been some time since we've had foals at MSE. All of our purchased foals grew to adults last month (pictures to come).
But now MSE has lots of foals!
The first is from one of our new Iran Turkmens. She arrived from the same farm as our two Turkmen stallions (seen below, the two in the foreground) and was in foal when she came.
The birth was rather stressful since she was so new to MSE's stables.
But she made it through and gave birth to a helathy filly.
It's fairly clear who the sire is as the little filly has the same light bay coat.
We're not sure if she will stay at MSE as of yet. The Trukmens are such a new breed to our stables that if we do sell her, it won't be until she is an adult.
(her barn name is Dashie...because for some reason she totally reminds me of Rainbow Dash in the above picture).
Next is two foals born into our semi-domesticated herd of Tarpan. Tarpan are...you know what? Not in an educational mood atm. I will explain them when I post their facility pictures. For now, they're extinct ponies from the Caucasus mountain region.
Anyway, two Tarpan foals were born late last night.
These foals are reserved for BoyWonder (if she wants them) as she contacted me previously. Since the herd is so small and only semi-domesticated, our conservation team has not given the horses names and these foals do not have names either (however BoyWonder is welcome to name them).
(one of the conservation team members checking on the foals...they were very curious about him...maybe because he's a warlock).
The grulla is the filly, who seems much braver and more independent than the colt.
The little colt (the dun) on the other hand, is shy and tends to stick close to his mother's side.
Last for tonight is a special little colt.
As you can see he has curved ears. Which means one of his parents has to be a Baluchi, Kathiawari, or Marwari. And the winner is.....Baluchi! Also MSE's Baluchi mare is seen in the background of the above picture, which you'd have already realized if you were paying attention when I showed off my Baluchi stock...well, one of my Kathiawari mares is in the background, too...but haven't really introduced my Indian breeds yet on this forum.
Anyway, what is the number one thing that makes any foal special at MSE? It is a DJ baby! Yep, just had to get a little DJ with curved ears. The colt actually seems to have inherited much of the Baluchi shape, though...would have prefer it to be the other way around, but the DJ influence might be greater when he's an adult.
Yes. He does indeed have one blue eye and one brown eye. First direct offspring of DJ to have that.
He does not seem to have inherited his sire's mean streak or stubbornness. But we're sure he'll show it at some point. Even if he doesn't, we like to think DJ has at least passed his personality to the colt by means of a marking. If you look at the white half of his face, it looks almost like the a horse skull.
This little guy has a long way to go, but he is definitely staying at MSE. In fact, he already has a name, MSE Crazy Like Us.
Next...eventually...at some point...Akhal-Teke foals for the upcoming foal crop. They've been born...they (and their sires and dams) just need good pictures to advertise...which I haven't been able to do yet...so eventually everyone will be able to see them...at some point.
